Violin Bow Playability —
A Player's View

About This Book

This work started more than five years ago. A population of seventy-five violin bows was tested for its measurable physical properties. The goal was to identify and quantify the playability of a bow through scientific method and objective data collection.

The approach in this book is to let the player tell the maker what kind of bows he likes. Let the researcher determine the difference between desirable and undesirable bows and identify the differences in their physical properties and means to measure them.

Details of the study and conclusions are the subject of this book. Background information on the physical parameters is considered and their significance and methods for their measurement are given in the following sections

Key parameters have been identified with high confidence, given the large bow population in this study.
